rory- songs of victory- "When all else fails, return to the pop that made you a star. Aid and I were talking yesterday about songs that achieve granduer without being pompous or overblown, songs that have a message of uplift that are earnest and never cloying, and I think that's what I'm after a lot these days."
aidan- robot olympics- "i had a song and i saved over it somehow, so i scrambled. what do in a pinch? write what you know. of course."
chris- jerseyman- "here's a bit of Hoboken civic pride for ya'll. It really bugs me when Brooklyn cool kids get all "why do you live in Jersey? Don't you know every who's cool lives in Brooklyn? And I'm like "stuff it! Jersey!" Be sure to listen for a brazen ripoff of my favorite Jersey band in the breakdown, here."
jon- new wave grave- "New Wave Grave" was another track off of Bayonet U.K.'s "Barely Live" LP from 1983. Toward the end of this particular set, Mick Jagger (guitarist, no relation) started to feel his "lager legs" (as he used to say) and flubbed the guitar solo in "New Wave Grave." Thom Davis was so pissed (and angry) that he threw an empty bottle at Mick, fracturing the guitarist's "good arm." It took Bayonet U.K. nearly 2 years to reconcile the differences created by that incident."
trevor-untitled #2 (3/4)- "There is no blurb tonight. Only a long sigh and a nice new pile of demerits." not on your life. minus 10 demerits. we're almost there.
raison- random memories- "This one just came out randomly tonight. A little more random change than usual, but hopefully it will still find some interest."

hey guys, don't worry aidan, i'm still lurking, and i think there's been enough songs written about me already. right raison? and i'm only mildly worried that people are noticing my absence here.

obviously, i've missed commenting on a lot of songs, but i will say that i've seen, or heard rather, the quality of the songs steadily increase as the month has gone on, and that's the bit that's impressed me most, the constant self-improvment.

ok, tonight's stuff is getting the full monty, as it were.

aidan - "and the best looking..." this song is brilliant, both thematically and... well, thematically. I just love the UT-style voice overs about the most inane shit. "MOONBOOTS!" god, i'm probably going to find myself shouting that for days to come. Catchy tune, man. probably my top pick of the night.

jon - i think mick jagger once broke my jaw when i tried to get an autograph. i don't care if he is a master of angry explosive britpunk (not like all this faux punk floating around these days), but that doesn't excuse his c*nty behaviour.

chris - as a new yorker, i'm going to try and remain objective about a song about a jerseyman. i'm just glad there's a river in between us and that the government took away my long range artillery. "by choice?" come across the trickle sometime for drinks.

raison - holy hell, man, this is far too catchy for it's own good. hard to classify, but it had me bobbing along from the first note. it sounds so familiar, i just wish I could put a finger on it.

rory - i always heart your understated pop sutff. and i really connect with the first verse about always waking up and rushing out a complete slob. the harmonies in the refrain are really solid... reminds me of moxy fruvous.

trevor - start writing blurbs, man. these demerits are totally not with it. hell, hire a press agent to do it (pref. one named Marty). and when the song is this good, unnecessary demerits are ridiculous. like raison, i'm having problems pinning down what this reminds me most of, but there's no doubt that i like it. and it's got some really great tralgatt lyrics.

fantastic work as always, guys. i'm only really sad that this is going to be ending soon. maybe eventually there'll be "6 guys... 2190 songs... 3 local hospitals on stand-by..."

rawes.

c.j., trevor lost demerits today, which is like gaining merits, ya dig? not that i have anything to do with the merit system or anything...

[editor's note: like hell you don't]

Thom, I'm ready to forgive and forget. I forgot how bloody sodding awesome that song is!

Posted by: Mick on February 23, 2005 06:57 AM

Well you CLEARLY forgot how sodding awesome it was when you bolloxed up the solo! No deal!

"gaining merits..."

Huh, guess I just didn't read those double-negatives closely enough. maybe that's why i flunked my sats.

great work today, everyone!

rory, you're a machine.

jon, you hurt. in a beautiful and creative way, you hurt me.

swish, i love it. it's like the lancaster ave. wawa... only on a bigger scale.

aidan, you say an hour. i will never believe you. stellar.

raison, random, but catchy, and everything good.

keep rockin', y'all... reese, you too.
