Design Philosophy

Modern web design combines elements of print and graphic design with technologies meant to facilitate the spread of information. The best website is both engaging to users and allows them to access information as quickly and unobtrusively as possible. To achieve this, I believe a website must be built from the inside out. Well written code leads to compelling and flexible designs and an intuitive user interface. While form may follow function, it is no longer necessary to sacrifice aesthetics for the sake of the machine.

In keeping with the philosophies of "standards compliant" web design, I work primarily in CSS, XHTML, JavaScript, PHP, and elements of Flash. Each language is optimized to a specific purpose. Elements of style, structure, and logic are divided into separate files to provide clean and easily maintainable code. The look of a site should be consistent across all browsers and always useable regardless of the computer's configuration. Not only will the site be more accessible to users and search engines, it will reduce bandwidth consumption, ease future updates, and improve it's longevity.

The site is integrated with the gallery's internal inventory system and allows them to make a small selection of their collection available to the public as well as organize and archive their exhibitions.
